There are difficulty levels and normal is not too rough, but there is some legitimate challenge and you need to stay awake at the wheel. You can hotswap the elements of your attacks While the morality of the various characters is not black and white (and not at all obvious to Hilda) and there are choices to made with at least apparent consequences, everyone is very chatty (especially Hilda) and you're less reliant on parsing item descriptions to get an idea of what's going on. Normal attacks don't cost stamina, and depending on weapons Hilda can attack quite quickly it's still on the Souls side of things but a bit flashier and harder to stamina lock yourself Hilda is a fairly upbeat teenager, and while the cursed city she's exploring is having a Bad Time (TM) it's not grindingly grimdark. XP and money are decoupled, and you can't lose XP. While it has quite a lot of the trappings of the genre and retains its feel in combat and exploration, it does quite a few things I think will make it feel less off-putting for anyone who found Elden Ring a bit rough: I find myself really quite liking this AA accessible Soulslike.
